Community Working Style
The eco community uses alternative cultivation methods like organic farming, IPM, eco farming, biodynamic and other traditional systems. We always try to apply pemaculture design. We have a vegetable garden and 2 rice fields, lots of milk cows, goats, chicken and other animals. We cover 80 % of our daily need concerning food with our own farm garden. Presently we are developing our ecological model farm. We don’t have fixed working times but from our experience it is best to work in the morning (between 7.00 am and 11.00 am) or evening (between 3.00 pm and 6.00 pm). The working hours also depend on our season and your capacities. You can take a day off or rest at any time. There are lots of nice places around the farm which are waiting for you to be discovered during your freetime.

Location
You can stay at Harachi garden in a house made of mud and clay. In front and at the east side of the house you can sit under one of five beautiful Kon trees or relax on the rock near the pond. Next to the house there is a traditional rice field surrounded by a small forest. At the north side you find the ecological garden – the place where community members spend most of their working time.

Accommodation
The house has 4 rooms and 4 beds. It is made of mud and clay with windows made out of old bottles and a roof made of coconut leaves and hay. We are using solar panels to produce electricity for lighting. You can charge your phone, camera , laptop, … in the house.
There are several ways how to shower at our community: You can either use the natural pond next to the house, go to the river which is flowing through the nearby forest, use the natural bathroom between the forest and the rock or have a stroll to the lake which is situated about 1,5 km away from the house. If you have to get rid of the delicious food you had the day before you can use dry or permaculture toilets.

Community food
As stated above we cover 80 % of our food needs with our own farm garden. We are growing indigenes rice, fruit (the best papayas in whole Sri Lanka) and vegetables (look forward to the pumpkin curry). We are also using eggs from our happy Indigenes chicken, meat and dry fish. We cook using open fire and clay pods. We get our drinking water from the well nearby. Enjoy a nice cup of tea with fresh cow milk, a glass of goat milk, or local herbal drinks – they will definitely keep you fresh, strong and healthy. We cook traditional Sri Lankan food with meals based on rice and many delicious kinds of currys. You get 3 warm meals per day. If you want you are more than welcome to use our kitchen and cook as well. Show us what the people from your country usually put on their plates.

Eco tours
We are happy to organize tours to special places of natural beauty and historical places for you. Just aks us.

Fishing
You want to catch your own dinner? Okay, there are several opportunities to do that. The Galewawa lake has about 800 acres. 12 fishing families are living around this area. They are using old boats and catching methods. The Rabawawawa lake has about 5 acres but still enough to get a big one. At the community we have a lake of the size of 2 acres. A small river is flowing through the farm where you can catch small ones as well.

Walking and mountain climbing
There are lots of possibilities around and on the farm to train your legs. Climb the Galkriyagama or Ranamukgama Mountain or just take your time for a stroll on a smaller rock. Go for it.

Bird watching
Calm down your mind watching and listening to many different kinds of birds. You can do that everywhere on the farm.

Donation
We expect you to give us a small amount of money to cover food and accommodation during your stay and help us to develop our ongoing project.
